1.3 Nota Bene

  • An increase in difficulties of proposed variations (not modifying the choreography) is tolerated but without obligation, and only for candidates enrolled in Advanced or Higher level (example: 2 turns for 1 turn, entrechats instead of single jumps).
  • Be careful: if no increase in difficulty at the regional level and obtaining a first prize, do not increase the difficulty at the national level.
  • For « Pas de deux » of REPERTOIRE, registration can be done in Advanced or Higher level, only with choreographies from the public domain. It is forbidden to mix several versions.

2. Membership Conditions

  • Membership in the C.N.D. is mandatory for the teacher and students.
  • Registration for the competition must be made in the candidate's region. The membership address is that of the dance school; for free candidates, that of their domicile.
  • Derogations for transfer to a region other than that of affiliation are not allowed, whatever the reason.

It is mandatory to provide: proof of identity (national ID card front page or family booklet on the child's page) + minor or major certificate duly completed and signed + recent identity photo for teachers and students.

3. Competition Registration

  • The age of candidates is defined on 1st January of the year of the competition.
  • Candidates must be at least 8 years old and maximum 25 years old on January 1st of the competition year.
  • No age derogation will be accepted.
  • The concept of average age within a group does not exist. Each student must be the correct age for the category.
  • Registration implies unconditional acceptance of these rules, under penalty of exclusion without refund.

National Competition Selection

  • Candidates who obtained a 1st prize with access to the national competition during the regional competition are selected.
  • Amateur candidates who scored 17 or more will be automatically registered at the advanced level for nationals.
  • Candidates who obtained a 1st prize at nationals must register the following year in advanced level (same category) or amateur in the next category if age allows.
  • Candidates presenting a choreography by a renowned choreographer must register at least in advanced level.
  • Teachers (with or without D.E., paid or volunteer) may not participate as candidates.
  • Within a group, amateur and advanced candidates may be mixed. The group must be registered in the majority-represented level.

4. Variations

  • A candidate is entitled to only two physical appearances on stage at the national competition.
  • In all individual categories, a candidate is entitled to only one passage in the same style (for nationals and European).
  • A group can consist of 3 to 15 students (musicians and helpers backstage or on stage included).
  • At nationals, the participants of duets and groups must be strictly the same as in the regional competition.
  • An individual free variation choreography cannot be presented more than three times by the same school.

5. Free Candidates

Candidates who do not take classes at a school can present themselves as "free candidates":

  • Classical: from Supérieur category in individuals, and from Category 3 in duets and groups.
  • Other disciplines: from Category 3 in individuals, duets, and groups.
